Anders Pehrson – Large Bumling Table Lamp for Ateljé Lyktan, 1968

A rare and impressive large Bumling table lamp designed by Anders Pehrson for Ateljé Lyktan. The story of Bumling began in 1968, when the first oversized, racing-green pendant was presented at the lighting exhibition in Gothenburg. The design subsequently developed into an extensive family of pendant, table, floor and wall lamps and became one of Ateljé Lyktan's most recognisable Swedish design classics.

This example represents the large and considerably less common brass table version, distinguished by its generously proportioned brass shade, tall brass stem and circular base covered in brown leather.

The contrast between polished brass and tactile brown leather gives this version an especially sophisticated character. Beneath the bold sculptural shade, a white louvred diffuser softens the illumination and helps reduce glare – a functional detail characteristic of Pehrson's thoughtful approach to lighting design.

With its impressive scale, rich materials and unmistakable silhouette, this is a particularly striking version of an icon of late-1960s Swedish lighting design.
